Try your best to come and make it for Animal Acres' monthly Farm Chore Day & Picnic this Saturday! They need all the help they can get, pertaining to fencing projects, building maintenance, and barn cleanings :) A commitment of 3 hours is requested.
Please let BFA know if you'd be available to go or offer a car for carpooling (and split gas costs) Saturday morning! RSVP'ing will ensure enough vegan lunch to go around, which will take place at 2pm.
If possible, please RSVP for this event through our Facebook page here!

When? January 23 2010 at 12:00 PM (32 Weeks ago) What? LA Fieldtrip
Where?
3201 Lacy Street, Los Angeles, CA 90031
Some members of BFA will be making a trip to the North Central Shelter in LA this Saturday at noon :)
This is a special event because Kevin & Kelly from The Vegan Collection organized a Pet Toy Drive in December through Vegan Drinks, and managed to collect a very hefty amount :)
Now they want help in passing out the goodies to the animals! So far we've got about 6 people willing to go, and we're aiming for 10 so if anyone is interested, let BFA know!
This is going to be really fun, and a great opportunity to participate in a BFA shelter event :) Let us know if you need a ride to get there and we can probably work something out.
Visit from Rory Freedman (author, Skinny Bitch)
When? January 27 2010 at 12:00 PM (31 Weeks ago) What? Speaker
Where?
UCLA - Kerckhoff Grand Salon
Though BFA did not arrange this event, we didn't think it would hurt to share the news :)
Co-author of the book, Skinny Bitch, Rory Freedman will be visiting UCLA on Wednesday, January 27th at noon to speak. If you're not busy this is a great event to make, especially if you haven't been to a Rory Freedman event before!
Skinny Bitch is a vegan-friendly book that serves to guide women in a "tough love" kinda way, toward the path of eating less "crap" (an easy thing to fall into with the typical diet here in the U.S., also known as SAD [standard American diet])! So taking tips from the book is not only good for one's health, but others' as well (i.e. other animals)! Sounds good to me. As it does with the many folks out there whose praise has led to the book remaining on the New York Times bestseller list for over a year.
See if you can make it, and check out her other books while you're at it :)
NOTE: On the UCLA page that describes this event, it is noted that the event is "free and open to all UCLA students" (see here). I'm not personally sure what this would mean regarding non-UCLA students! If someone knows, please feel free to let us know, thanks! I just wanted to mention this to those who don't go to UCLA :)

General meeting @ 6pm! Lasting till about 7pm. This time we have a vegan comedian guest speaker to look forward to, by the name of Leo Flowers. He'll be giving us insight into what it's like for him to be vegan, including what it's like to travel while being vegan :) Don't miss it!
Remember that as we will from now till the end of the quarter, we are meeting at our NEW location in Haines Hall Room A28!
